Below, please find information on what to expect, what is included, what to wear, and a pre-checklist to best prepare for your fitness and wellness assessment.

What is a Wellness Assessment?

The Three Forks Ranch Mayo Clinic Healthy Living Program offers 5 fitness and wellness assessments that measure your current physical conditioning. Through these data-driven assessments you will receive expert guidance that is personalized around your current starting point and your desired physical activity goals. Whether you are a new exerciser, a weekend warrior, or an everyday athlete, we can help you break through to the next level.

What are the five assessments?

  1. Point of Care (POC) – Biometric Evaluation
  2. Body Composition Scan – Body Fat, Bone Density, & Waist Circumference Assessment
  3. VO2 Sub Max Test – Cardiovascular Fitness Test
  4. Keiser Upper Body & Lower Body 1 Rep Max amp; Peak Power Test – Strength Assessment
  5. Movement & Balance Assessment – Functional Movement Screen & Single Limb Stance Test

What is the purpose of each assessment?

BIOMETRIC EVALUATION
Tests blood pressure and blood values (cholesterol and glucose) to provide our team a snapshot of your current health status and risk of disease.

BODY COMPOSITION SCAN
Accurately measures your bone density, percentage of muscle of fat and distribution using Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) technology, so you can have the data to succeed.

CARDIOVASCULAR FITNESS TEST
Assesses the amount of oxygen you use during exercise, allowing us to gauge your cardiovascular fitness level.

STRENGTH ASSESSMENT
Tests upper and lower body strength to provide you with appropriate goals to increase muscular strength and endurance.

MOVEMENT ASSESSMENT
Assess elements of your functional movement including strength, posture, balance, core stability, and mobility.

BALANCE ASSESSMENT
Assess static balance ability, determine asymmetries in stance balance from right to left side, determine difference in static balance with eyes open and eyes closed.

ASSESSMENT REVIEW
Discuss your results with fitness and wellness experts and begin to identify your strengths and weaknesses. In some cases, access to Mayo Clinic's physicians for further review will be scheduled.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PLANNING AND WELLNESS COACHING
Use the insights from your assessments and work with a Mayo Clinic trained Wellness Coach to help you form goals for the future.

PERSONALIZED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PLAN or NUTRITION PLAN
Work with your team to create a physical activity or nutrition plan that will help you break through to the next level.

All guests 18+ years of age are eligible.

How is Mayo Clinic involved?

Three Forks Ranch is partnered with Mayo Clinic & Mayo Clinic's Healthy Living Program to offer fitness and wellness services for guests wanting to take their health journey to the next level. Our Mayo Clinic certified wellness staff will leverage our leading-edge fitness equipment for a thorough full-body scan utilizing the latest in medical technology and innovation. Assessment results will aid our experts in creating an individually designed program based around outdoor and indoor activities that you enjoy the most. In addition, Three Forks Ranch will be the first wellness destination in America to offer this unparalleled service to guests.

If you participate in our optional Fitness & Wellness Assessment, you'll have exclusive and direct access to Mayo Clinic should you desire to explore your individual health needs in more detail. Your direct access includes a virtual consultation during your stay with a Mayo Clinic physician should you have any out-of-range data from the assessment or other medical questions you would like addressed.

In addition, we believe that your time spent here with us is just the beginning of your wellness journey. To help you make sustainable changes for your wellbeing, the assessment also includes extended Wellness Coaching sessions with a Mayo Clinic Certified Wellness Coach. The Mayo Clinic extended coaching package includes 12 weeks of one-on-one wellness coaching support with a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach. The package includes 7 wellness coaching video sessions to be utilized within the 12-week time frame.

The Initial session will be a 45-minute session and the six follow-up sessions will be 30 minutes in length. The sessions will be scheduled at intervals based on the client's preference and availability within the 12 weeks. Wellness coaching is an inspiring and effective way to empower you to successfully reach your health and wellness goals. Coaching will help you focus on taking action to move toward your ideal wellness through conversation-based inquiry, personal discovery, and goal setting.

Fitness & Wellness Assessment Pre-Checklist:

To best prepare for your Three Forks Ranch Mayo Clinic Healthy Living Fitness & Wellness Assessment, here is a pre-assessment checklist:

For 10 hours before your POC test:

Do not eat or drink anything, other than plain water

For 8 hours before your test:

Do not exercise or do any strenuous activity

Creams or lotions:

Do not put creams or lotions on your skin before the test as they may interfere with results.

What to wear:

Wear comfortable exercise clothing such as shorts, tank tops, and clean/dry athletic shoes. Avoid wearing anything containing metal including zippers, jewelry, and underwire. If you have long hair, pull it back into a ponytail.

If you are diabetic, please maintain your blood sugar above 100 mg/dL.

Cancellation Policy:

Our Healthy Living Center Fitness & Wellness Assessment appointments are reserved especially for you, so we ask that you provide a minimum of 24 hours' notice to reschedule or cancel your service. No-show or cancellation made less than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time will be charged at the full assessment rate. Our cancellation policy applies to all guests.

Check-In:

Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your appointment time to take full advantage of the Healthy Living Center. Appointments begin promptly at the time scheduled. If you arrive late, the appointment is shortened to allow staff to be on time for their next appointment. The Healthy Living Center is located on the bottom floor of the new spa facility, under the fitness center and pool level.

Mayo Clinic Virtual Consultation:

Mayo Clinic physician consultations are facilitated by the Healthy Living Center staff. Staff will connect you with Mayo Clinic to set up a Mayo Clinic Patient Online Services account and confirm a time for the appointment. Once an account has been setup, you MUST fill out your medical history PRIOR to your scheduled 15-minute appointment as you won't be able to join the consult without completing. This can be done from your own smart device, or you can access our Health Living Center tablet to complete. Please allow 20-30 minutes to complete this prior to your appointment.
